Governor Barbour’s Simple Idea

on October 27, 2011

On Tuesday, Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour (R) spoke on a panel at the National Press Club and he made a bold but simple suggestion.

Gov. Barbour said he hopes the Supreme Court overturns the massive healthcare reform law.  But in the meantime he’d like to see the congressional “supercommittee” consider cutting the law as well.  The supercommittee, you may recall, is tasked with reducing the federal budget deficit by at least $1.2 trillion over ten years.

According to Politico, Barbour said: “You cannot deal with federal spending if you don’t get control of entitlement spending.”

He’s right.

For both the fiscal health of our nation and in order to get healthcare right, we should pursue every option to replace the healthcare law.

Through the Supreme Court.  Through legislation.  Through the supercommittee.  And through good old voter pressure.
